Surama Chowdhury Memorial International Award in Literature/Journalism

The Surama Chowdhury Memorial International Award was instituted by IIPM in the year 2008, in memory of Smt. Surama Chowdhury, one of the founder members of the IIPM Society. She was an avid reader of literature, who strongly believed that an appreciation of literature is a necessity for one and all across all age groups, to help the person generate a broader outlook to life. She was also a voracious reader of newspapers and general interest magazines. Her contribution towards the building of the institute’s foundation was immense. The prize carries a monetary reward of USD 100,000 (equivalent to INR 60 lacs as per current exchange rates, 2012), a gold medal and a citation and is given away to people from the world of literature/journalism. This is not an annual event, as the award committee may not present the award in a particular year due to the unavailability of the right candidate. Event date: 30th August.

The award carries a monetary reward equivalent to Euro 1.1 million (which is approximately Rs. 7 Crore and is greater than the Nobel Prize amount), a gold medal and a citation. The prize would be given away in multiple categories (not necessarily prizes in every category to be given away in the same year) – Peace/People Centric Economics/People Centirc Management/Literature.
